In British Sign Language (with subtitles and voiceover)

To celebrate this year’s national South Asian Heritage Month theme of “Stories to Tell”, Sangam Festival has commissioned Deaf poet Sahera Khan to create an original poem.

This is the third poem Sahera has written and performed for our Festival and once again it’s a wonderfully evocative and thought-provoking work.

The poem is performed by Sahera in British Sign Language with subtitles and voiceover.

Sahera Khan was born in the United Kingdom and now lives in London; her parents were born in India/Pakistan. Her native language is British Sign Language.

Sahera is a freelance writer/creator, artist/actress, filmmaker and YouTuber. She is a member of 1623 Theatre Company and is trained in acting and presenting, including with RADA and Deafinitely Theatre.

Sahera also does occasional support work with D/deaf children and has been involved with several campaign videos about deaf awareness and current affairs. She is a trustee and Media Relations Officer for the Deaf Ethnic Women’s Association, supporting D/deaf Ethnic women and girls to achieve better quality of life, rights, education and employment.
