Literature is the thread y[[that connects all other art forms that shape the culture of a place. And the poet is the master of the needle (or rather the pen) that expertly weaves words to express the human experience, from love to fear, from friendship to hope, it is these words that paint a beautiful picture; a narrative of the times.

The tradition of The Mushairah goes back to the era of the Mughal Empire, where noble gentry would gather to listen, ponder and critique the poet reciting expertly composed stanzas.

Mushairas are traditionally performed in Urdu, a language that in its inception was formed to provide the trading communities of the Northern Indian subcontinent a sense of commonality; the language of love.

Today we celebrate this tradition, by bringing together local writers from the South Asian diaspora, to enjoy spoken word performances swimming in rich cultural heritage.
