Originating from the Panjab in South Asia, Bhangra is an energetic traditional folk dance and musical form.
In this Bhangra demonstration and interactive workshop, Huddersfield-based practitioner Hardeep Sahota will show you some easy-to-learn Bhangra moves and direct you if you’d like to join in.
You can also see Hardeep Sahota demonstrate this dance form at our Norman Park Family Day in Birkby, Huddersfield on Saturday 13 August, 1pm-3pm, or join him at Huddersfield Library for our Asian Anime Drawing workshop on Saturday 23 July, 2pm-3.30pm.
Hardeep Sahota is a Huddersfield-based creative practitioner, educator and Bhangra specialist. His book Bhangra: Mystics, Music and Migration explores the origins of Bhangra from the Panjab and how it developed and enjoyed a renaissance in modern British culture among the South Asian diaspora – and around the world. Hardeep’s most recent body of work explores Bhangra dance movements captured in energetic light paintings and showcased at Yorkshire Sculpture Park: https://ysp.org.uk/exhibitions/hardeep-sahota-bhangra-lexicon
