Would you like to help shape the future of WOVEN and/or Sangam Festivals?
We are keen to make the planning and development process as transparent and accessible as possible for those already involved or who would like to contribute in the future.
This planning meeting for both festivals will include:
A short presentation by a representative from each festival
Opportunities to discuss your projects and ideas, make connections and find out what support is available
Informal opportunities to network with Festival partners
Your ideas and projects could be for one or both Festivals – or for a joint project between the Festivals.
WOVEN in Kirklees: A Celebration of Innovation in Textiles Across Kirklees takes place biannually in June.
Sangam Festival: A Celebration of South Asian Heritage takes place during South Asian Heritage Month – 18 July to 17 August.
At the end of the session, we’ll show a short (15 minute) film: Interwoven. A project created for WOVEN in Kirklees by artists Hardeep Sahota and Mandeep Samra with musician Boff Whalley, the film is a unique soundscape with images and recollections of life in the mills, overlaid with the sounds of the weaving sheds of Kirklees and recordings by local musicians.
Free (booking recommended)
The event will be followed at 7pm by A New Life in Huddersfield – a short film about people who travelled from South Asia to Huddersfield in the 1950s onwards, with a Q&A with film- maker Mandeep Samra and two of the people featured in the film. Note: you will need to book for this event separately.
